We’re a few months away from the launch of God of War 3, and everyone has played the first two games in preparation, right? For those interested in revisiting the PlayStation 2 classics, or for gamers who somehow missed them the first time around, Sony has released quite the package: God of War 1 and 2 together in one Blu-ray disc, complete with a graphical boost to take advantage of the power of the PlayStation 3.

When the DSi was unveiled last year, one of of the biggest selling points for the unit was that it allowed gamers to shop for applications via an online store. This was great, as it allowed users to buy their games online, which meant they could bypass the middleman without any hassle. But this strength is also a weakness, because Nintendo’s EULA only allows gamers to keep the software they’ve purchased on one console, meaning that if a user somehow breaks his or her handheld, there’s the distinct possibility that the only option to recover their purchases is to pay for them all again.

Apple has big on a big gaming push lately, specifically when it comes to the iPhone and iPod touch. Even Nintendo is at least acknowledging that the iPhone is a market force, even if the company doesn’t believe they are direct competitors. However, a recent job posting for a “Game/Media Software Engineer” suggests Apple may be taking gaming seriously enough to create new first-party titles—a strategy that Nintendo and other companies use to provide an advantage for their respective platforms.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii is one of those games that will leave you disappointed after the first level, slightly happy after the first world, and then you’ll be stuck with a huge grin on your face after blasting through the game with three friends. This is a magical game, made even more impressive by how rote it may seem at first. Keep playing, however, and you’ll see just how much this title offers.
